Local businesses are the heart of St Ives, Carbis Bay, and Lelant. From our independent shops and cafes to the vibrant hospitality and tourism sector, these businesses are what make our community special and keep our economy strong.
Having worked in the St Ives business community most of my life, I have a bit of an understanding of the challenges and opportunities our local businesses face. As most people will know my family business is St Ives Motor Company. Since 1976 I have watched my father sell cars to St Ives… I spent summers cleaning cars before I worked in a number of hospitality businesses in St Ives.
I now work with Meor Design, a business who specialises in branding, design and marketing for hospitality businesses. This experience gives me a unique insight into the business world of St Ives — a town that love it or hate it, is a holiday destination. 100 years ago we were all about fishing and mining, now it is hospitality an industry that, like our previous industries, I believe we should be the very best we can be an provide our visitors with the best experience they can have.
As your Cornwall Councillor, I will work to champion local businesses by:
- Advocating for shop local campaigns to encourage residents and visitors to support our independents.
- Exploring opportunities for grants and funding to help small businesses grow and innovate.
- Pushing for a better balance in tourism so that our community directly benefits from visitors while keeping our town accessible for locals.
