Fixing What’s Broken—A Plan for Change.

St Ives is beautiful, but living here isn’t as easy as it looks. Housing, transport, local business, and safety—things are getting worse, not better. It’s time for real action, not more excuses. Let’s make change happen.

We all know our town is one of the most beautiful places in the country, and looking in from the outside you would think living here is easy… but we have the same problems as anywhere else, for the people who live and work here, everyday life comes with real frustrations.

For years, we’ve seen the same problems get worse: a housing crisis pushing locals out, unreliable transport and parking headaches, a struggling local economy, an environment under increasing pressure, and rising antisocial behaviour in our town.

We all know these issues exist—yet time and time again, nothing seems to change. In fact very often things seem to get worse… austerity has had a devastating effect on our public services and our centralised county council, police, emergency and NHS services seem to be getting more distant, under staffed, and underfunded rendering them unable to provide a basic service level across our rural county.

Why Isn’t Change Happening?

Too often, the response to these problems is either: “We’ll look into it,” “we dont have the funding or man power,” or “That’s just how it is.” But across the board things are getting worse, and accepting the status quo isn’t an option. When something’s broken, we need to fix it.

Right now, we’re seeing decisions made that don’t reflect the needs of the people who actually live here. These days policies are decided by specialists, looking at spread sheets and making calls from remote offices, not even based here in Cornwall. These policies get put in place without local knowledge or thinking about how they affect local families, businesses, and workers. And often promises get made, but the action never follows.

This needs to change.

A Fresh Approach – A Councillor Who Will Push for Action

We don’t need more talk. We need action—real solutions to problems that should have been fixed long ago. That means:

  • Housing that works for local people – It’s not right that those who grew up here struggle to stay because of skyrocketing house prices and an abundance of short term holiday lets increasing pressure on over stretched and ageing housing stock. We need stronger action to prioritise local housing needs.
  • Better transport and parking – Residents deserve fairer parking deals, and we need a bus service that actually works for the people who rely on it.
  • Stronger support for local businesses – Independent shops, cafés, and hospitality venues are at the heart of our community. We need to make sure they get the support they need to thrive.
  • A real plan to protect our environment – Cleaner beaches, better waste management, and a smarter approach to tourism to protect what makes this place special.
  • Reliable mobile signal and broadband – It’s 2025, and yet people in our community still struggle with bad signal and slow internet. This isn’t acceptable, and we need proper investment to fix it.
  • More police on our streets – St Ives is a safe place, but we’ve all seen a rise in antisocial behavior. We need a stronger police presence to ensure our town remains a great place to live and visit.

It’s Time for Real Action

These aren’t impossible problems. They just need leadership that’s willing to push for real change—someone who will challenge decisions that don’t make sense, speak up for local people, and refuse to accept that this is just the way things are. That’s why I’m standing in this election.

If you’re tired of excuses and ready for action, let’s make this happen together.
