In today’s fast-paced, digital-first world, staying connected isn’t just a luxury—it’s a necessity. Unfortunately, many areas in St Ives, Carbis Bay, and Lelant continue to struggle with poor mobile signal, inconsistent WiFi, and patchy broadband. For residents, local businesses, and even visitors, these connectivity issues hinder everything from emergency calls to running a business or simply keeping in touch with loved ones.
The Problem
While much of the UK has moved forward with better digital infrastructure, rural and coastal communities like ours are often left behind. The impact of these gaps is felt in our daily lives:
- Dropped calls
- accessing digital payment systems or maps
- Local businesses being unable to operate efficiently
- Students and remote workers unable to rely on dependable internet.
My Plan to Fix It
As your representative, I will prioritise improving communication infrastructure for our community. Here’s how:
- Lobby for Mobile Signal Upgrades: Advocate for partnerships with telecom providers to eliminate mobile signal black spots and ensure reliable coverage across St Ives and surrounding areas.
- Accelerate Fibre Broadband Rollout: Work with Cornwall Council and providers to prioritize areas in St Ives East, Carbis Bay, and Lelant for faster broadband installation.
- Free Community WiFi Zones: Explore funding and partnerships to establish public WiFi hotspots, supporting both local businesses and visitors.
- Champion Remote Working Solutions: Support digital hubs and coworking spaces, giving our community a competitive edge and helping to alleviate commuter congestion.
A Vision for a Better Connected St Ives
From better mobile coverage to faster broadband and free WiFi zones, I’m committed to making St Ives a better-connected town. Improving communications doesn’t just solve problems—it creates opportunities. With robust digital infrastructure, we can strengthen our local economy, make St Ives a more appealing place to live and visit, and ensure no one feels left out.
