Transport and Parking in Our Community

Traffic, parking, and unreliable transport are daily challenges in St Ives. By improving parking options, investing in public transport, and creating safer spaces for walking and cycling, we can make getting around easier for everyone.

Whenever we talk to anyone about St Ives there is always one subject that crops up… Parking!

Transport and parking the two most frequently raised issues by residents in St Ives, Carbis Bay, and Lelant. Whether it’s finding a space to park, navigating congested roads, or accessing reliable public transport, it’s clear that we need to take action to improve the way we get around our community.

The Issues We Face

St Ives’ popularity as a tourist destination brings economic benefits, but it also creates significant challenges. During peak times, our roads are clogged with traffic, parking spaces are scarce, and public transport options can feel unreliable and insufficient.

For residents, parking costs can be prohibitively expensive, adding stress to daily life. Poor cycling and pedestrian infrastructure makes it difficult for people to opt for greener modes of transport, while unreliable bus services leave many residents feeling disconnected from the surrounding areas.

My Vision for a Better Transport Future

Transforming transport and parking in our community isn’t just about solving today’s problems; it’s about planning for a sustainable future. Here’s how I plan to address these challenges:

  1. Better Parking Deals for Residents: I will advocate for fairer, more affordable parking options for local residents to ensure that people who live here can park without financial strain.
  2. Improved Public Transport: Reliable and frequent bus services are vital for reducing car dependency. I will push for better routes, more frequent services, and extended operating hours to make public transport a viable option for more residents.
  3. Sustainable Transport Solutions: Investing in cycling and pedestrian infrastructure is key to creating safer, greener, and more accessible ways to get around. I will champion projects that prioritize walking and cycling, including safer crossings and dedicated bike lanes.
  4. Addressing Traffic Congestion: We need smarter approaches to traffic management to ease congestion during peak times. This includes exploring park-and-ride options and implementing systems to better manage visitor traffic without impacting residents.
  5. Strengthening Rail Links: Ensuring our rail services are more frequent and reliable can significantly reduce road congestion and provide a greener alternative for travel within and beyond the area.

The Benefits of Change

By prioritizing these initiatives, we can:

  • Make it easier and more affordable for residents to navigate daily life.
  • Reduce the environmental impact of traffic and parking congestion.
  • Enhance accessibility for everyone, including visitors and those with mobility challenges.
  • Create a more sustainable, community-friendly approach to transport.
